Science, Technology, and Expertise
Many countries have undergone a shift towards greater public participation in knowledge production and environmental governance. Through this participatory turn, experts and expert knowledge are now subject to greater public scrutiny. However, in cases of complex environmental issues, expertise is highly politicized, and these negotiations play out in a contested landscape. This research examines boundaries between 'experts' and 'non-experts' as entry points for inquiry into the relations between science and power, asking how these boundaries are devised and what functions they serve in channeling knowledge and politics.
