Assisted Migration
The ongoing climate and biodiversity crises “requir[e] us to rethink how we see the present and how we imagine the future” (Fernandez, 2019:322). This is particularly true of assisted migration, a controversial proposition to intentionally relocate plants, animals, and fungi to places that will be more climatically-suitable in future.
While some species have long captured public interest, others may emerge through a change in their spatial distribution. What happens when these species move into new areas? What happens to the conflicts surrounding them, and what is the role of intention and agency in the decision to intervene on behalf of these species?
